Grassley: Senior FBI agent accused of stopping Hunter Biden probe must testify in front of Congress
Senator Chuck Grassley (R-LA) said this week that Timothy Thibault, the former senior FBI agent who is accused by some Republicans of shutting down the probe into Hunter Biden for partisan reasons, must testify in front of Congress.
Grassley has led the charge to question Thibault about his role in ending the FBI’s 2020 investigation into Hunter Biden. This week, Grassley made a speech on the Senate floor saying Thibault must be called to testify in front of the Senate to give more information about whether he caused the investigations into Hunter Biden’s business practices to shut down, and why.
“FBI officials wanted to take action with respect to this separate investigative information the FBI had in its possession related to Hunter Biden. However, Thibault blocked the FBI from doing what would normally be done,” said Sen. Grassley in his Senate speech.
Thibault resigned from his FBI position last month. The FBI told CBS News all retirees are escorted out by security as a matter of protocol, and Thibault was no exception.
“[The FBI’s] investigative activity and information could not be advanced as it should’ve been, which means the FBI could have gathered more evidence with respect to Hunter Biden but cut bait instead,” Grassley said. “And the FBI and Thibault cut bait right before the 2020 presidential election.” He then invited Thibault to appear in front of the Senate to answer more questions.
“Thibault said that he ‘welcomes any investigation’ into the allegations against him,” the Senator said. “Well, Mr. Thibault, come on in. Sit for a transcribed interview with me and my colleagues.”
