Herschel Walker says Warnock will ‘embarrass’ him in upcoming debates
Georgia senatorial candidate, Republican Herschel Walker, told a crowd this week that he believes his opponent, incumbent Senator Raphael Warnock, will “embarrass” him at their upcoming debates.
Walker, who entered the race with the endorsement of former president Donald Trump, has made waves during his campaign largely due to allegations of his having fathered secret children as well as an alleged history of violent threats against his ex-wife.
This week he spoke to reporters in Savannah, telling them he thinks Warnock is likely to outperform him in an upcoming October 14 debate.
“I’m a country boy. I’m not that smart,” Walker said. “He’s a preacher. He is smart and wears these nice suits. So, he is going to show up and embarrass me at the debate October 14th, and I’m just waiting to show up and I will do my best.”
Walker’s campaign agreed to the televised debate last month after weeks of political ads claiming he was avoiding a public debate with Warnock.
However, when asked by the Savannah Morning News why it took so long to schedule the debate, Walker allegedly became defensive, saying he had had to “hunt down” Warnock to get him to commit to a debate and had told him to “put his big man pants on.”
“[Warnock] may not even show up for that one,” Walker claimed. “He has made every excuse not to show up. I begged him until I chased him down and then he decided he was going to show up Oct. 14. I didn’t agree to do his debate because it wasn’t fair. A fair debate is doing it in front of the voters, and I’ve agreed.”
The debate is slated to take place in either Macon or Atlanta.
