$1.337 billion Mega Millions jackpot to be split by two people, identities kept anonymous
Two people from Illinois have come forward to claim the $1.337 billion Mega Millions jackpot, months after their winning ticket was drawn in July 28th.
The winning ticket was sold at a Speedway gas station and the lucky numbers were 13, 36, 45, 57 and 67 plus Mega Ball 14.
The AP reported that the two people wish to remain anonymous. Illinois is one of the 16 states that allows lottery winners to collect their winnings this way.
Lottery officials confirmed that the two winners have been working with both legal professionals and financial advisors and were said to be “over the moon” after learning they had won.
“These winners are now in the enviable position of deciding what to do with their newfound fortune,” said Illinois Lottery Director Harold Mays.
The recently claimed $1.337 billion prize was the second largest jackpot in the 20-year history of the game, beaten only by the $1.537 billion won in South Carolina on October 23rd, 2018.
Many players have chosen to collect their winnings under the cloak of anonymity including one player in Kingston, Jamaica, who in February of 2019, arrived to collect his giant check wearing a Scream mask, Inside Edition reports.
The man, identified as “A Campbell,” claimed his $1.2 million dollar prize without showing his face.
