Mother of capitol rioter shot by police asks GOP to investigate Jan. 6th committee
The mother of Ashli Babbitt wants GOP lawmakers to investigate the House select committee probing the 2021 Capitol riot if they’re awarded the majority in November.
36-year-old military veteran Ashli Babbitt was fatally shot during the January 6th Capital riot.
Her mother, Micki Witthoeft, who attended an advocacy rally for those charged in connection to the riot, lashed out at the January 6th committee and called it a “hoax” that is meant to manipulate the public in regard to what happened that day.
Witthoeft said in a statement to The Washington Times: “I would like to see the Republicans launch an investigation into all these people. That committee is a sham. I know they’ve changed information at times and altered videos. They’ve shown portions of videos that serve their purpose and their narrative, but they don’t go forward to let you know what actually happened.”
Witthoefts’s remarks come as the Democrat-led January 6th is about to hold what will likely be its final meeting on Wednesday.
Several Republicans have spoke out about concerns over the treatment of those arrested for the January 6 riots.
Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) requested an investigation into the Justice Department on the treatment of rioters and Rep. Louie Gohmert (R- TX), has called the defendants “political prisoners.”
“It appears that at least some of those treated to vilely for suspected involvement in the January 6 events are political prisoners of the U.S. government,” Gohmert wrote in an op-ed in The Epoch Times. “If we as a country continue to allow this abuse of power to unfold and turn this nation into a banana republic, there is nowhere left in the world to refuge for lovers for liberty and freedom.”
