FBI reportedly putting together case against Hunter Biden
An anonymous source within the FBI believes they have built up evidence to charge Hunter Biden with tax crimes along with making a false statement to purchase a firearm, according to CBS News.
Hunter Biden has been under investigation since 2018.
The Washington post reported that the attorney in Delaware who is dealing with the case has not yet decided whether to proceed with criminal charges.
The investigations into Hunter Biden have largely been centered on his overseas business ventures and consulting. The investigation has recently branched into whether Hunter Biden incorrectly reported his income and also made false statements when he went to buy a firearm.
In his book, Hunter Biden had admitted to being addicted to crack cocaine at that time. The Washington Post reported that he said “no” on a federal form which asked if he was “an unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana or any depressant, stimulant, narcotic drug or any other controlled substance.”
In a statement sent to CBS, Hunter Biden’s lawyer said that he expected the Department of Justice to “diligently investigate and prosecute” those guilty of leaking information in regard to this investigation.
“As is proper and legally required, we believe the prosecutors in this case are diligently and thoroughly weighing not just evidence provided by agents, but also all the other witnesses in this case, including witnesses for the defense,” the statement from lawyer Chris Clark said. “That is the job of the prosecutors. They should not be pressured, rushed, or criticized for doing their job.”
Clark also made a statement to The Washington Post where he said “It is a federal felony for a federal agent to leak information about a grand jury investigation such as this one. Any agent you cite as a source in your article apparently has committed such a felony.”
In April, President Joe Biden’s chief of staff, Ron Klain, said that while Joe Biden “is confident that his son didn’t break the law,” the investigation would be left in the hands of the Justice Department and that the White House would have no involvement.
