Abrams denies comparison to her comments about ‘stolen elections’ to Trump’s claims of fraud
Democratic powerhouse and Georgia candidate for governor Stacey Abrams is coming to her own defense after Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger accused her in 2020 of refusing to concede the 2018 gubernatorial election to Governor Brian Kemp.
Appearing on Fox News Sunday, Abrams was asked about claims that she had refused to concede the 2018 election to Kemp. Abrams has denied the claims in the past, and did not veer off course in this weekend’s interview.
“I acknowledged that Brian Kemp won — I acknowledged it repeatedly in that speech,” Abrams said, referring to a speech in which she acknowledged the results of the election, but also claimed there had been voter suppression efforts in Georgia and the election in the state was not free and fair.
“I very clearly say I know I’m not the governor,” she said on Sunday, “but what I will not do is allow the lack of nuance in our conversations to dull and obfuscate the challenges faced by our citizens.”
Abrams filed a lawsuit under her voting rights group Fair Fight Action claiming voter suppression and other untoward activities had led to her loss. A judge dismissed the suit earlier this month.
As of Monday, polling shows Kemp ahead of Abrams by almost 6 points, according to FiveThirtyEight. While Abrams has consistently trailed Kemp in polling, she has also consistently outraised him.
Abrams has raised a total of $36.3 million between her political action group Fair Fight and her official campaign. According to Axios, Abrams has outraised Kemp by about $8 million as of early October.
