Minnesota woman allegedly assaulted for wearing a shirt featuring the American flag
A woman in Minnesota was reportedly assaulted for wearing a shirt with an American flag on it.
Police officers from the from the Mankato Department of Public Safety were called to an apartment after getting reports of a woman screaming coming from the apartment.
The police report states that when officers arrived at the apartment complex, they found the woman “soaking wet” and was “bleeding from the nose.”
According to police, the woman’s face was so swollen that they “couldn’t see her eyes.” Officers also found fragments of plastic on the kitchen floor along with “several cell phones that had cracks on the screen.”
The woman was still able to communicate, despite her injuries and she informed officers that Paul Peter Jal assaulted her after getting “upset” that she was wearing an American flag shirt.
The woman said that Jal punched her and attacked her with a towel rack, and after that he “grabbed her neck and restricted her airway.”
The woman went on to say that Jal “took the phone and broke it” after he discovered she had called authorities.
Jal is being charged with 2nd degree assault with a dangerous weapon, 3rd degree assault, threats of violence, property damage, and impeding emergency services from carrying out their duties.
Jal is known to police and was charged with running from a police officer in 2021. Jal pleaded guilty to the offence and was sentenced to one year in prison with credit been given for 5 months already served.
