NBC News Poll: Both parties think the other will destroy America
An NBC News poll recently asked voters with strong allegiances to parties, “what is the most important issue facing the country?” Both strongly believe the other will be instrumental in destroying the United States.
For Democrat voters, their number one answer was “threats to democracy.” Three in 10 registered Democrats selected that answer.
Another 15% of Democrats selected “abortion,” an issue that has gained significant attention since the Supreme Court decision voted to overturn Roe v. Wade and therefore eliminate the Constitutional right to an abortion. And another 13% each chose “climate change” and “cost of living.”
Republicans had different concerns. The number one issue for the GOP, at 29%, is “jobs and the economy.”
The next issue for Republicans is “immigration and the border” at 20%. The number 3 issue, with 16% voting for this is “cost of living.”
The NBC poll also asked voters to articulate a message they would like to send to the party they intend to vote for.
For the registered Democrats who responded, 23% said protect women’s rights, 20% said be more effective and 9% said the party should be more bi-partisan.
For Republicans, fix the economy and reduce inflation came in first at 19%. This was followed by 3 other issues, all which polled 9% of the votes; be more effective, focus on the United States and save the country.
The poll also asked voters whether if they believed that the opposing party’s policies “pose a threat that if not stopped will destroy America as we know it.”
81% of Democrats said they believe there is a reasonable chance that Republican policies could destroy America while 79% of Republicans said the same about The Democrats.
