Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer heard telling President Biden that Georgia Senate race is ‘going downhill’
With November’s midterms edging closer, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer could be heard overheard on a hot mic on Thursday telling President Joe Biden that the Georgia Senate race was “going downhill.”
“The state where we’re going downhill is Georgia,” Schumer said referring to Sen. Raphael Warnock’s highly charged reelection bid. “It’s hard to believe that they will go for Herschel Walker.”
Georgia Republican Senate nominee, Herschel Walker, currently has a slight lead over Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock, according to several recent polls.
Schumer also commented on Tuesday’s debate performance from Pennsylvania Democratic nominee John Fetterman.
Fetterman debated Republican candidate Mehmet Oz for the Pennsylvania Senate seat. Fetterman, who is recovering from a stroke, stumbled his way through a few answers.
“It looks like the debate didn’t hurt us too much in Pennsylvania as of today, so that’s good,” Schumer said to Biden, adding that “We’re picking up steam in Nevada.”
Republicans are narrowing the lead several swing state races with less than two weeks until Election Day. Polls show tightening Senate contests in Nevada, Pennsylvania, Arizona, and Georgia, among others.
RealClearPolitics shows the GOP flipping Senate races in three states; Arizona, Georgia, and Nevada.
A USA TODAY/Suffolk University poll released on Thursday expects the Republican Party to take control of the House, with a chance of also taking the Senate.
A spokesman for Schumer responded to questions about his comments, saying that Schumer remains optimistic about the party’s chances in the upcoming midterms.
