Rep. AOC targets Elon Musk in series of tweets, says he has an ‘ego problem’
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and new Twitter owner Elon Musk recently had a spat on Twitter, over Musk’s proposed $8 monthly fee for verified users.
After AOC complained about the extra cost, Musk pointed out that she sells sweatshirts on her website for $58.
“Lmao at a billionaire earnestly trying to sell people on the idea that ‘free speech’ is actually a $8/mo subscription plan,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted.
Musk said in response, “Your feedback is appreciated, now pay $8.” He also added a screenshot of one of Ocasio-Cortez’s $58 sweatshirts with a confused emoji.
Ocasio-Cortez replied by targeting Musk in a series of fiery tweets.
She explained her reasons behind the sweatshirts price, saying: “My workers are union, have full healthcare + benefits like childcare help, and every one is paid a living wage. Proceeds go to community acts like tutoring underserved kids. You’re a union buster with an ego problem who pockets the change from underpaying and mistreating people.”
She continued, “Team AOC honors and respects working people. You should try it sometime instead of union-busting.”
She later accused Musk of using his new authority to mess with her account, saying that her notifications “conveniently aren’t working tonight so I was informed via text that I seem to have gotten under a certain billionaire’s skin.”
“Just a reminder that money will never [buy] your way out of insecurity, folks,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted.
She added, “One guy’s business plan for a $44 billion over-leveraged purchase is apparently to run around and individually ask people for $8. Remember that next time you question yourself or your qualifications.”
