Man arrested after throwing beer can at Ted Cruz during Astros World Series parade
On Monday, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) was hit by a can of beer during World Series victory parade for the Houston Astros, and authorities confirmed that a suspect has been charged.
The Houston Police Department confirmed in a statement that “A male, 33, threw a beer can at U.S. Senator Ted Cruz as the Senator was on a float in the 2400 block of Smith St.”
The statement added that “Nearby HPD officers arrested the male without further incident.”
Police identified the suspect as Joseph Halm Arcidiacono. He was charged with aggravated assault.
“The beer can struck the Senator in the chest/neck area,” police said, adding that he was not injured. Cruz said on Twitter that the projectile was a can of White Claw.
Cruz, who was booed by the crowd during the parade, tweeted a video of the incident and paid tribute to the Houston Police.
“As always I’m thankful for the Houston Police and Capitol Police for their quick action,” said Cruz. “I’m also thankful that the clown who threw his White Claw had a noodle for an arm.”
Democratic Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) took to Twitter to condemn the incident.
“Don’t throw beer or commit violence against someone you politically disagree with. We are a country of voting not violence,” he tweeted.
