Report: Herschel Walker raised $3.3 million on first day of runoff campaign against Sen. Warnock
According to a report by Fox News, Republican candidate Herschel Walker has raised $3.3 million on Wednesday, which is the first day of his runoff campaign against his Democrat opponent, Senator Raphael Warnock.
Fox also reported that Walker added a further $1 million to his coffers before noon on Thursday.
The Associated Press called the race Wednesday afternoon and since then both sides have thrown money at their respective candidate. The Georgia seat was seen by both parties along with experts as being crucial in terms of gaining control of the Senate.
Florida Senator Rick Scott, who is the head of the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC), joined Walker in sending a memo to supporters on Wednesday asking them to contribute and ensure that they “stay on television.” The NRSC released it’s first runoff related advert on Thursday.
Walker trailed Warnock by less than 1 percentage point, which worked out to be approximately 35,000 votes, in Tuesday’s general election. However, as neither candidate was able to breach the required 50 percent mark, they will face off one more time in a runoff election.
The runoff will be held in four weeks, on December 6.
The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee announced on Thursday that it will be investing $7 million into organizing events to promote Warnock during the runoff.
