Alex Jones files for bankruptcy after being ordered to pay $1.5 billion to Sandy Hook families
Following recent lawsuits against him, Infowars host Alex Jones has filed for bankruptcy on Friday, citing debts that include nearly $1.5 billion which he has been ordered to to pay to families who sued him over his comments about the Sandy Hook school massacre.
“I’m officially out of money, personally,” Jones said during his Infowars broadcast. “It’s all going to be filed. It’s all going to be public. And you will see that Alex Jones has almost no cash.”
The lawsuit was taken out against Jones after he said that the Sandy Hook shooting was staged and that first responders were “crisis actors.”
Jones’ filing listed $1 billion to $10 billion in liabilities and $1 million to $10 million in assets.
Jones brought up the filing, saying it will prove that he is broke. Jones has asked his followers to help him pay his debts by purchasing merchandise from his website. Jones then said he will not make any further comment on his bankruptcy.
Chris Mattei, who represents the Sandy Hook families, criticized the bankruptcy filing, saying in a statement that Jones’ bankruptcy “will not work.”
He added, “The bankruptcy system does not protect anyone who engages in intentional and egregious attacks on others, as Mr. Jones did. The American judicial system will hold Alex Jones accountable, and we will never stop working to enforce the jury’s verdict.”
