Democrats condemn Elon Musk after he calls for Fauci to be prosecuted
Elon Musk had drawn criticism from several left-wing politicians and other public figures after he tweeted his support for Dr. Anthony Fauci to be prosecuted.
As well as being the chief medical advisor to President Joe Biden, Fauci is the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
Musk tweeted on Sunday, “My pronouns are Prosecute/Fauci,” drawing both support and criticism. Others also targeted Musk for appearing to mock the use of pronouns. Musk said in response: “The Branch Covidians are upset lol.”
Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene said in response to his first tweet: “I affirm your pronouns Elon.”
The Hodge Twins, who are conservative commentators, added: “Let me guess, You found messages between Twitter execs and our govt. (Fauci and team) pushing for censorship of anyone that didn’t go along with their narrative on Covid?”
Democratic Sen. Amy Klobuchar said: “I’m a big fan of Dr. Fauci and how he’s calmly guided our country through crisis. Courting vaccine deniers doesn’t seem like a smart business strategy, but the issue is this: could you just leave a good man alone in your seemingly endless quest for attention?”
Astronaut Scott Kelly, whose brother is Democratic Sen. Mark Kelly, tweeted: “Elon, please don’t mock and promote hate toward already marginalized and at-risk-of-violence members of the #LGBTQ+ community.”
He added, “Furthermore, Dr Fauci is a dedicated public servant whose sole motivation was saving lives?”
The White House also responded to Musk’s comments, with Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre calling his tweet “disgusting” and “divorced from reality.”
“These attacks, these personal attacks that we’ve been seeing are dangerous — on Dr. Fauci and other public health professionals as well — they are disgusting and they are divorced from reality,” Jean-Pierre said Monday.
