Boyfriend of Breonna Taylor will will receive $2 million settlement in lawsuit over Taylor’s death
Breonna Taylor’s boyfriend, Kenneth Walker III, has reached a $2 million dollar settlement with the City of Louisville over “the unlawful police raid that led to Ms. Taylor’s death.”
Twenty-six-year-old Taylor was shot and killed by Louisville police officers on March 13, 2020, as they executed a search warrant as part of a narcotics investigation just before 1 a.m. Officers user battering ram to break down the door of Taylor’s apartment.
While the officers have said that they announced their presence before entering, Walker has maintained that he got no response when asking who was at the door. When they broke through the door, Walker fired upon the officers, injuring Police Sgt. Jonathan Mattingly. Police fired back, killing Taylor.
In Walker’s lawsuit, the Louisville Metro Government and individual officers are named as defendants, CNN reported.
Steve Romines, one of the attorneys representing Walker, said after the settlement was announced:
“While this tragedy will haunt Kenny for the rest of his life, he is pleased that this chapter of his life is completed. He will live with the effects of being put in harm’s way due to a falsified warrant, to being a victim of a hailstorm of gunfire and to suffering the unimaginable and horrific death of Breonna Taylor.”
