Harvey Weinstein convicted of rape and sexual assault, faces up to 24 years in prison
A jury has convicted Harvey Weinstein of one count of rape and two counts of sexual assault in an incident involving an actress that he forced himself on.
Weinstein is already serving over two decades in prison after being convicted of similar charges two years ago.
The sexual assault counts were for forcible oral copulation and sexual penetration by a foreign object committed against a victim identified as Jane Doe 1. The acts were committed in February 2013 at a Los Angeles hotel, according to the Rolling Stone.
Weinstein also faces charges of rape and sexual assault against Jennifer Siebel Newsom, the wife of California Governor Gavin Newsom, but since the jury couldn’t reach a verdict on the allegations, a mistrial was declared.
He faced further charges of sexual battery against a third accuser, but he was acquitted of those charges.
The jury deliberated for 10 days before coming to their decision. Weinstein is facing up to 24 years in prison, BBC reported.
Weinstein is also facing charges outside the U.S.
Prosecutors in the United Kingdom brought forth charges against Weinstein in June. Those charges include accusations of “indecent assault” allegedly committed in 1996.
