Spokesperson for former VP Mike Pence denies reports of Pence filing presidential candidacy
A spokesperson for former Vice President Mike Pence has responded to reports of that Pence had entered the 2024 race on Monday after a “statement of candidacy” was filed with the FEC on his behalf.
The spokesman, Devin O’Malley, denied the reports and confirmed that Pence did not file the paperwork.
“Former Vice President Mike Pence did not file to run for President today,” O’Malley tweeted, adding that the filing was likely done as a “prank.”
He added: “I didn’t have it on my Bingo card for ANY of the days between Christmas and New Year considering Pence has been saying that if there was an announcement to be made, it would made in 2023!”
A statement of candidacy was indeed filed for “Mr Mike Richard Pence” at 5:12 p.m. ET on Monday.
As of now, Pence hasn’t said if he’ll be running for president in 2024. If he does, it’s unlikely that he’ll beat former President Donald Trump or Ron DeSantis in the Republican primary – as both are currently leading in hypothetical primary polls.
While Trump has announced his 2024 campaign for president, DeSantis has given no word on the matter and has avoided giving a straight answer when questioned if he’ll run.
However, Pence discussed the possibility of running during a nationwide book tour for his memoir “So Help Me God.”
“The fact that people are now getting to know me and my family, our faith, our conservative convictions better, has been a great source of encouragement as we think about the way forward and what our calling might be in the future,” Pence reportedly told Fox News Digital at a New Hampshire event on Dec. 13.
