San Francisco bakery burglarized for 6th time, owners blame city leaders
The owner of a San Francisco bakery is calling out city leaders after experiencing their sixth burglary.
Le Marais Bakery is located in the Castro District on Sanchez Street and owned by Patrick Ascaso. The shop was broken into on Dec. 26.
“This time they took the entire POS, the register, the tablet, and the industrial safe from downstairs! They took that as well,” Ascaso told CBS Bay Area. “I was sad today, more than anything, almost on the verge of tears when I saw the place ransacked that way.”
Ascaso called out city and state leaders on Facebook, including San Francisco Mayor London Breed, California Governor Gavin Newsom, and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi in his post.
“If you cannot protect San Francisco’s small, local, family-owned businesses, how can our city thrive? We are heartbroken. We put so much heart into this location, we take such good care to make it beautiful and serve beautiful food and do our best on every level, and this is just too sad. It happens over and over and nothing changes,” Ascaso said, according to the UK Daily Mail.
Ascaso begged San Francisco and California leaders to “Please … do more to care for our city and its small businesses. We deserve better. Our communities deserve better.”
Larcenies and robbery thefts rose 4.9 and 9 percent in 2022, the Daily Mail reported, noting that a group of 125 businesses previously sent a letter to the city government threatening not to pay their taxes if the city doesn’t get homelessness under control.
