Report: Elementary school student finds gun superintendent left in bathroom

Texas news station KTAB-TV reported that A third-grader at Rising Star Elementary School found a gun left by the school’s superintendent Robby Stuteville in a restroom stall last month.
Both the Superintendent and the school principal open carry their firearms. Stuteville confirmed that he had removed his firearm while using the restroom. Stuteville forgot to retrieve the firearm and the student found it 15 minutes later. It was reported by the school that the student didn’t touch the firearm and notified a teacher immediately.
The incident, which took place in the Texas town of Rising Star, has prompted a police investigation.
“There was never a danger other than the obvious,” Stuteville went onto tell KTAB-TV, that he was “proud” of the student for how he dealt with the situation.
“This is one of those examples of guns in schools. Regardless of who takes responsibility, they are a considerable danger, and one should school their child to be on the lookout for any unusual placement of a weapon or anything out of place,” Stuteville said.
Stuteville has said that he is no longer bringing the firearm to school.
Under Texas law firearms are prohibited from school grounds, this applied to both public and private schools, unless the school provides written authorization.
Rising Star Police Chief Don Braly confirmed to KTAB that his office was notified of the incident on Wednesday and that an investigation is ongoing.
