Tommy Fury beats Jake Paul by split decision
Tommy Fury prevailed over his opponent Jake Paul in their 8-round fight by means of a split decision.
Tommy Fury, who is the brother of Tyson Fury, was favored by 2 of the 3 judges, despite being knocked down by Jake Paul in the 8th round.
Jake Paul was deducted one point in the fifth round for hitting Fury on the back of the head.
One judge scored it 75-74 to Paul, with the other two scoring it 76-73 to Fury.
“For the past two years this is all that has consumed my life,” Fury said to BT sport.
“Everybody thought I was running scared but tonight I made my own legacy.”
Fury dedicated the win to his daughter Bambi before going onto say “This is my first main event, I am going to get bigger and better and if he wants a rematch, bring it on.”
Jake Paul, who lost for the first time, said “All respect to Tommy, he won. Don’t judge me by my wins, judge me by my losses.
“I don’t know if I agree with the judges, it is what it is but that is the boxing world.”
Despite the hostility between the two fighters in the buildup, they shared a moment of respect following the decision.
Former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson and All Nassr midfielder Cristiano Ronaldo were both in attendance.
