Bipartisan dinner calms Harris-Warren tensions

Tensions have been brewing recently between Vice President Kamala Harris and Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA).

Warren inadvertently upset Harris and her team after she was asked in a January interview whether President Biden should retain Harris as his Vice President.

“I really want to defer to what makes Biden comfortable on his team,” Warren said during an interview with a Boston radio station.

CNN reported that following these comments, Warren phoned Harris on two occasions to offer her apologies.  CNN also reported that Harris didn’t return Warren’s phone calls.

Harris hosted a bipartisan dinner on Tuesday for female senators at the US Naval Observatory, which sources close to Harris say is something she has done on at least two other occasions.  Warren was in attendance.

A source familiar with the dinner said that invites were extended more than a month ago as part of a long-running Senate tradition.

The source close to Harris said that building bridges between Warren and Harris was one of the main reasons for holding the dinner as “no-one was benefitting from this.”  The source went on to say that “they had to get rid of it.”

A video posted to Twitter by Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) shows Warren sitting close to Harris with only one person sitting between them.  The Senators smiled and waved at the camera during the video.

Those close to each woman acknowledged that there was a “beef.”

Allies of Harris felt that Warren’s comments were disrespectful while those close to Warren said that Harris should have returned Warren’s calls.

“The View” host Ana Navarro discussed the bad feeling between Harris and Warren during an episode of the view.  Navarro said “I don’t know what the hell is wrong with Democrats?” 

“Listen, here’s the bottom line: Joe Biden is going to be your nominee,” an Navarro went onto say. “Stop talking about how old he is, and Kamala Harris is going to be your vice president. So stop fretting. Stop wringing your hands and get behind your ticket. Because on the side, the alternative is [former President] Donald Trump or [Florida Gov.] Ron DeSantis [R]. So, you tell me what you prefer.”
