Assassin tries to kill President Trump

An assassin wounded President Donald J. Trump, and apparently killed two others, as Trump was speaking to a large crowd. This happened in Butler, Pennsylvania, in the Pittsburgh television market. What had begun as another campaign rally is now a scene of tragedy, and blessed relief, at the same time.

An assassin takes a shot

The would-be assassin apparently took a sniper-like position overlooking the stage, and could have camped overnight. He fired at least three shots at President Trump, one of which found its mark.

But not only did President Trump survive, but he raised his right fist and bellowed, “I will not back down!”

Sadly, at last report, one person who was on the stage with Trump, died under the continued gunfire. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) first reported the possibility of a fatality. Even more sadly, the fatality is a bystander, according to the Butler County District Attorney. (Source: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.)

Elon Musk issued three rapid-fire posts, pledging his full endorsement of Trump and wishing him a speedy recovery.

Musk had previously made a sizable donation to a Trump-affiliated “super-PAC” this week.

Before this incident, the left-wing press were saying Trump had been lying about whether the FBI set him up to die in the Mar-A-Lago Raid. CNAV has reached out to one outlet for comment, and inquired into possible revision of their earlier analysis.

Detailed description of the incident

A witness told reporters of seeing a man with a rifle running on a nearby rooftop, within five to seven minutes of Trump beginning to speak. He spoke of wondering why Trump was still speaking in the face of an obvious threat. He has little doubt that he had in fact spotted the assassin. Then, without warning, the shots rang out – five in all. Instantly several Secret Service climbed onto the roof, surrounded the would-be assassin, and killed him in a firefight.

Identification of the assassin is tentative at best. The New York Post cited anonymous sources as identifying the assassin as Chinese. Other rumors, totally unconfirmed, identify him as a member of Antifa. At least one recent Antifa-associated video exists, promising, “Justice is coming.”

The White House issued a statement under President Biden’s signature, condemning the attack. At about 8:14 p.m. EDT, Biden made an in-person statement saying “there is no place” for such violence.

Andrew Torba, head of Gab, posted to X, urging Gab users not to threaten or hint at violence.

President Trump got onto Truth Social as soon as he was free, and left this statement:

I want to thank The United States Secret Service, and all of Law Enforcement, for their rapid response on the shooting that just took place in Butler, Pennsylvania. Most importantly, I want to extend my condolences to the family of the person at the Rally who was killed, and also to the family of another person that was badly injured. It is incredible that such an act can take place in our Country. Nothing is known at this time about the shooter, who is now dead. I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear. I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin.
