It’s not about guns; it’s about control
Rational thinking people, who seem to be overwhelmingly conservative, have been arguing that writing more gun control laws will do nothing to stop mass murderers. They recognize that sociopaths like Adam Lanza, Seung-Hui Cho, or Harris & Klebold would not have been stopped by the gun control laws being proposed today. In order to stop some of our past mass murderers, you would also have to write laws to control the sale of fertilizer (Timothy McVeigh), knives (Jack the Ripper), and all sorts of chemicals (Saddam Hussein).
Biden admits gun control will not work
C.S. Lewis once said that you can’t write laws fast enough to control people that won’t control themselves. In a very unusual twist of fate, Vice President Joe Biden agreed with C.S. Lewis. On January 31st, Joltin’ Joe Biden stated to a group of reporters:
Nothing we’re going to do is going to fundamentally alter or eliminate the possibility of another mass shooting or guarantee that we will bring gun deaths down to 1,000 a year from what it is now…
Really? Well then can our astute Vice President please tell us why we need these laws? If they won’t do anything to alter or eliminate mass shootings, why are our legislators wasting time arguing about them? Don’t they have anything better to do – like perhaps trying to pass a budget? The truth is that the gun control laws will control some people – not sociopaths, criminals, or mass murders – they will control law-abiding citizens. But…it’s not the law-abiding citizens that are committing these heinous crimes. Rational thinking people realize this.
Apparently there isn’t any shortage of irrational thinking liberals. This morning (Tuesday, February 5) I heard Bob Beckel arguing for background checks. Beckel said, “What impedes someone’s rights to buy a gun by having a background check?” Beckel may have been right in this instance but even a broken clock is right twice a day. While this statement made by Beckel is rational, the irrationality comes in when the same man will argue that Voter ID laws impeded someone’s right to vote.
Well-intentioned people may argue for more gun control but their arguments seldom would affect criminals – and after all, that is supposed to be the purpose of gun control laws. What gun control laws do effectively is create more ways for an ever-increasing government to exercise control over its citizens. So, if Vice President Biden understands that gun control laws will not allay violence and mass murders, such as the horror of Sandy Hook, but still advocates for more control, we should be asking ourselves exactly what kind of control is he advocating for? As a free-thinking and liberty-loving Christian American, the only control I yield to is that from Almighty God. And – despite rumors to the contrary – that is not Barack Hussein Obama – no matter how many rainbows he has painted above his head on flags.
