Trouble with Liberals

Ronald Reagan knew the trouble with liberals

After recently having a very strange discussion with a liberal, I came to a very simple conclusion. The trouble with liberals is that when you’re trying to tell them the house is on fire, they run to find marshmallows instead of a hose. As much as we use logic and reason, they use emotion and “feel good” ideologies to try to label you as some kind of heartless human being because you don’t care about the poor or the uninsured. While I may appreciate their compassion, their ability to reason seems non-existent. If it seems like you are having an argument with someone who speaks a different language, you may be more on target than you realized. You may argue with them about what you think, and they will always argue back about what they feel.

The trouble with liberals, according to Reagan

Ronald Reagan knew the trouble with liberals

Ronald W. Reagan, 40th President of the United States. Official portrait, 1981.

President Reagan had a different way of putting it. He said,

Well, the trouble with our liberal friends is not that they’re ignorant; it’s just that they know so much that isn’t so.

I agree with President Reagan. For instance, our liberal friends believe that we can achieve some kind of Utopian society, but they don’t know that Utopia doesn’t exist, has never existed, and will never exist. Worse – they will sacrifice what is good in our society to chase after their illusive dream, turning our realistic dream into a nightmare.

They will argue with you that a woman has a right to choose what happens to her own body but they will refuse to recognize that the baby she may be carrying has rights as well. Of course their latest argument may be that we need more gun control; but they fail to realize that guns are inanimate objects and incapable of doing anything without a human being to pull the trigger.

Liberals will also argue that same-sex marriage is a right; but they fail to recognize that so is freedom of religion and others have the right to believe that marriage is between a man and a woman. They will call you intolerant if you believe that there is a right and a wrong that is established by Someone greater than yourselves, and they are very intolerant about accepting your belief system.

Liberals will defend the environment but they will not defend your right to live at harmony within the environment. They love the trees, the air, the water and all animals except those of the human variety, which they see as a blight upon the land.

“But the real trouble with liberals is that they vote.” Yeah.. it’s too bad they voice their opinions in a democratic way. You state that liberals are intolerant about accepting your belief system, yet you penned a whole article about the “trouble with liberals.”

“It’s not so much that they vote, as how they vote”
So how do you ensure that people only vote the way you want them to vote? Are you suggesting if they vote for a ‘Liberal’, they should in future be disenfranchised? (Interesting point then arises…who defines ‘Liberal’? I know some people here in the UK that think the Tea Party are a load of left wingers.)
Alternatively you could of course ban all ‘Liberals’ from running for office and only allow those vetted by ‘we the people’ to stand. The problem with that is what happens if ‘we the people’ select someone you think is a ‘Liberal’?
You might want to think about adopting the old Stalinist system – with a minor name change – ‘One man, one vote; Terry’s the man and he’s got the vote.’
