Canadian police seizing fuel, other donations to protesting Canadian truckers
Canadian police stated they have seized thousands of liters of fuel and removed an oil tanker as they crackdown on the ongoing Canadian trucker protests.
The protest has placed Ottawa in a gridlock, despite being mostly peaceful (NBC News). Horn blaring was brought to court on Monday as many locals had been complaining about the noise.
This results in a granting of an interim injunction preventing people from blasting horns downtown. The protests, also known as the “Freedom Convoy,” has turned into a rally against Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s public health restrictions.
Trudeau spoke publicly calling for the protests to stop. “This is a story of a country that got through this pandemic by being united and a few people shouting and waving swastikas does not define who Canadians are,” he said. Trudeau and his family left Ottawa out of safety concerns when the convoy entered the city. Some extremists have infiltrated the protests, waving Nazi and Confederate flags.
Recent polls in Canada have shown that citizens are getting frustrated with the strict public health restrictions. This weekend, police counted 1,000 trucks and 5,000 protestors. The weekend prior saw 3,000 trucks and 10,000 to 15,000 protestors.
Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson said “The occupation has turned into an aggressive and hateful occupation of our neighborhoods. People are living in fear and are terrified.” He went on to call the honking “tantamount to psychological warfare.”
