Missouri GOP rejects filing fee of candidate who once said ‘Hitler was right’
The Missouri Republican Party announced Tuesday that they are rejecting the filing fee for conservative radio host Steve West for his past statements. West is currently running for the Missouri House of Representatives.
In a statement released Tuesday, the Missouri GOP said, “Today the Missouri Republican Party has rejected the filing fee of Steve West, who sought to run for office as a member of the GOP. West’s past statements are vile and conflict with the fundamental values of our platform. The Missouri Republican Party believes there is no room for hate and divisiveness and the Missouri Republican Party will not associate with anyone who promotes these abhorrent ideas.”
According to the Hill, West has been known for spreading conspirancy theories and for being blatantly antisemitic, islamaphobic, and homophobic. Hateful comments have become expected on his radio show.
Recently he said that “HItler was right” about who was responsible for what occurred in Germany prior to WWII. Additionally, he is accused of making consistently misleading claims about COVID-19 and the vaccinations.
West’s children have also spoken out against him. They have asked voters to choose otherwise. His daughter Emily West told the Kansas City Star back in 2018, “I can’t imagine him being in any level of government.”
His son Andy West also said that his ideology was of “pure hatred.” West has defended himself saying he is “not running as a radio show host, I’m running for state representative.”
