Gunfight at Arkansas car show leaves 1 dead, at least 28 wounded

An Arkansas car show on Saturday turned into a horrific scene when two men entered into a gunfight with each other, sending bullets in all directions and shooting innocent bystanders in the process, killing one person and injuring at least 28.

The 16th annual Hoodnic car show in Dumas, Arkansas is a charity event hosted by and benefiting the Delta Neighborhood Empowerment Youth Organization, which provides tutoring, backpacks, scholarships and other education-related services to local students.

This Saturday, around 6:50 PM, two men began firing at each other in what officials are saying was a gang-related altercation.

Bill Bryant, Director of the Arkansas state police, says authorities are still searching for a suspect, but have one man in custody, who is being held on unrelated charges after fleeing the scene of the shooting, but is being questioned in relation to the shooting.

“It was no mass shooting intended on this. It was two individuals who got in a gunfight,” Bryant said, adding, “You don’t expect that from small-town Arkansas.”

Bryant confirmed that the deceased victim, Cameron Shaffer, 23, was not involved in the shooting and was an innocent victim in the tragedy. There were five children injured in the shooting, including two under the age of 2 years old, and an 8 year old, a 9 year old and an 11 year old. Arkansas Children’s Hospital reported most of the victims were released on Sunday.
