A$AP Rocky arrested by LAPD in connection to 2021 shooting
A$AP Rocky has been arrested at the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) as a suspect in a shooting in Hollywood last November, according to police reports.
The hip-hop artist, 33, had just arrived at LAX on a private plane from Barbados, where he’d been vacationing with pregnant girlfriend Rihanna, when he was detained by the Los Angeles Police Department, the LAPD said in a news release.
Rocky was charged with assault with a deadly weapon (firearm), which is a felony, at LAX. His bail was set at $550,000, according to court records. TMZ reported that Rocky posted bail later that afternoon and left in an SUV.
The LAPD stated that Rocky was identified as a suspect who allegedly fired a handgun at a victim during a previously unreported argument on November 6, 2021. The victim “sustained a minor injury.”
Rocky, whose legal name is Rakim Mayers, was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon, and the case will be presented for filing consideration at the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
The victim said the incident occurred around 10:15 p.m., and he later received medical treatment for a minor injury. The LAPD said Rocky and two additional males fled on foot after the shooting.
The case will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration, according to police.
Rocky and Rihanna, 34, announced in January that they were expecting their first child together, and were recently photographed on vacation in her native Barbados.
Rocky also had a brush with the law in Sweden in 2019. Rocky and two friends were arrested in Stockholm on assault charges, and reportedly detained in unsanitary conditions.
Eventually, Rocky returned to the U.S. in August, after then-President Donald Trump got involved in the case, sending a hostage envoy. He claimed self-defense in court and was later found guilty, ultimately being given a two-year suspended sentence.
