Canadian rock guitarist found dead in home, with own son suspected of his murder
On Monday, Gord Lewis, the 65-year-old guitarist for the Canadian rock band Teenage Head, was discovered dead in his home. The musician’s body exhibited signs of “foul play” trauma, according to police.
Jonathan Lewis, the deceased man’s son, has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder.
“We are continuing to seek out witnesses and reviewing video in the area,” Detective Sara Beck told reporters.
The news of Gord Lewis’ death comes as a shock to fans of the iconic band. Teenage Head rose to prominence in the late 1970s and early 1980s with hits like “Picture My Face” and “Somebody’s Daughter.” The group continued to perform together until recently, when health issues forced Gord Lewis to retire from touring.
Lewis’ son Jonathan is suspected of killing his father and then emailing local media outlets requesting medical assistance.
“Funeral people need to get here quick. My Dad is starting to decay,” Jonathan reportedly wrote in one email.
Police believe Jonathan killed his father sometime over the weekend before sending the emails. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday to determine the exact cause of death.
If Jonathan is charged with murder, it would mark a tragic end for a once-promising musician. Lewis was a respected member of the Canadian music scene and had toured with some of the biggest names in rock.
In recent years, however, Lewis had fallen on hard times. He was reportedly struggling with mental health issues and had been estranged from his son.
Now, Jonathan is facing the possibility of spending the rest of his life in prison.
