Suspect arrested months after fatally shooting a mother visiting her son’s grave
Police in Texas have arrested a teenager suspected of fatally shooting a Texas woman who was visiting her son’s grave. The teen has been identified as 17-year-old Christian Lamar Weston. He is currently in police custody and is being held without bond.
The woman, Yolanda N’Gaojia, was shot as she was paying respects to her son, Amir Tajai-Kineh N’Gaojia, at the Calvary Baptist Church Garden of Memories Cemetery in Killeen. The day of N’Gaojia’s visit would have been her son’s 22nd birthday.
On March 22, The Killeen Police Department were alerted to a shooting at the cemetery at 5pm and they responded immediately. According to a statement from law enforcement, “Upon the officers’ arrival, they located two victims who had been shot.”
The statement went onto say that N’Gaojia “succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased by Justice of the Peace Gregory Johnson at 6:56 p.m. He ordered an autopsy to be performed at the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas.”
A second victim suffered injuries in the altercation, however the Killeen Police Department said in a news release that they remained stable. The identity of the 2nd victim has not been revealed.
Kineh N’Gaojia identified his ex-wife while speaking with KWTX and released a statement expressing his sorrow. “I have no words because I can’t believe this is real,” Kineh wrote in a statement shared to Facebook. “This is the stuff you see [in] movies but it has become our life.”
“I can’t believe you are gone Yolanda N’Gaojia. How y’all gonna kill her on her Son (sic) birthday at his gravesite???” Kineh said. He added a picture to his 2nd post and said, “My children will never be the same again.”
“Those bullets took a precious gem from us but gave us an Amazing Angel to guide us so you know we ain’t going nowhere but up cause we know how hard you rode for your family. Thank you for making our lives complete we gonna miss you Solider. WE LOVE YOU,” he added in a final post.
Killeen Police are treating the shooting as an “isolated incident.”
