Florida school district to place AR-15 rifles in each school
A school district in Florida has confirmed that it is safely storing AR-15’s in each school which can be used in the case of an emergency, such as a school shooting.
The Vero Beach school district’s sheriff Eric Flowers has said the move is to increase safety for students and also went onto say that the firearms will only remain in school when the resource officer is present.
The resource officer will bring in the AR-15’s into school on their arrival, place them in secure storage and then take them home after their shift.
“When bad guys show up with guns, they’re going to find our guns,” Flowers said. “If they’re coming at us with an AR-15, we’re gonna return with the same or greater firepower.” Flowers went on to say that no incidents had taken place since the safes were installed.
Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey stated last week that officers in county schools will have firearms with them at all times and will be prepared to “meet violence with violence” and win the day in case of a school attack.
Florida Today also quoted Ivey saying, “You are not coming into my schools and killing our children.”
Ivey added on Facebook, “While I pray it never happens, I can assure you that our Brevard County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Deputies are prepared to win the battle to protect our children and teachers!”
The response from parents in regards to the measure has been mixed, with some supporting it, whilst others feel uncomfortable with the idea.
