Republican senators tell Facebook to give up records of communication with FBI about Hunter Biden
In a letter earlier this week, Republican Senators Ron Johnson (R-WI) and Chuck Grassley (R-IA) demanded that Facebook turn over all records of any communication the company had with the FBI in relation to Hunter Biden and his laptop.
The letter, dated August 29, alleges Facebook and its CEO Mark Zuckerberg had intentionally suppressed information related to Hunter Biden’s laptop in October of 2020.
The senators base their allegations on an episode of Joe Rogan’s podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience, in which Zuckerberg was a guest last week. During the podcast Rogan asked Zuckerberg about the events leading up to the decision to suppress the headlines about Hunter Biden.
Zuckerberg answered, “Basically the background here is the FBI, I think basically came to us – some folks on our team – and was like, ‘Hey, just so you know, you should be on high alert. We thought that there was a lot of Russian propaganda in the 2016 election. We have it on notice that basically there’s about to be some kind of dump that’s similar to that. So just be vigilant.”
The senators go on to assert that the FBI may have misled Facebook into suppressing the story.
“The American people deserve to know whether the FBI used Facebook as part of their alleged plan to discredit information about Hunter Biden,” the letter reads. “If so, Congress and the American people require clarity with respect to the extent the FBI communicated with Facebook during the2020 election about Hunter Biden-related information.”
