Twitter locks out ‘Libs of TikTok’ for repeatedly violating rules against ‘hateful conduct’

On Saturday, Social media platform Twitter locked the account of “Libs of TikTok” effectively banning its owner from sending tweets or even signing in, according to a report.

Libs of TikTok has gained over 1 million followers for re-sharing posts from “far-left circles” which have been taken from TikTok. The account’s posts touch on topics such transgenderism and education. Critics say that the platform unfairly mocks people. 

“Hi Libs of TikTok, your account, @libsoftiktok has been locked for violating the Twitter rules,” reads an email reportedly sent to the account’s owner.

“You may not promote violence against, threaten, or harass other people on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, religious affiliation, age, disability, or serious disease,” the statement reads. “Please note that repeated violations may lead to a permanent suspension of your account. Proceed to Twitter now to fix the issue with your account.”

“The account was placed in read-only mode for seven days,” a Twitter spokesperson confirmed.

Facebook also permanently suspended the account of Libs of TikTok. The account received a message from Facebook saying “You can’t use Facebook or Messenger because your account, or activity on it, didn’t follow our Community Standards. We have already reviewed this decision, and it can’t be reversed.” Facebook did not clarify a reason or if the ban was attributed to a particular post.

Twitter previously locked the account in June stating they believe that the channel threatened adults who had brought children to watch or even participate in drag shows.

The Libs of Tik Tok account was also banned from Instagram in May, however a reason was not given in that case.
