Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi received a frosty reception when made a surprise appearance at Global Citizen’s music festival in Central Park in New York.

Pelosi was introduced by Priyanka Chopra Jonas, who is the wife of singer Nick Jonas.

Pelosi took to the stage climate change and cutting carbon emissions in the speech and some booing was audible from the start, videos show.

“As speaker of the house, I am here to thank you for your dazzling advocacy, entrepreneurial thinking, and determination as global citizens,” she told the crowd after her introduction, according to The New York Post.

“It’s thanks to your help that the United States recently enacted historic climate legislation, which will be a game changer,” Pelosi said. “It will slash carbon pollution by 40% by 2030, it will give a historic, an historic $370 billion to fight the climate crisis.”

Several people in the audience could be heard booing and shouting “Let’s go,” as Pelosi exited the stage.

One audience member could be heard defending Pelosi by saying “It’s Nancy Pelosi, why is everyone booing?” per the Post.

Global Citizen tweeted afterwards: “Thank you, @SpeakerPelosi for recognizing Global Citizens all around the world who took action in support of the new, historic climate legislation in the US!”

This was one of Pelosi’s first public outings since her husband, Paul Pelosi, was arrested and charged with drunk driving.

Paul was found guilty but avoided any prison time as a result of a plea deal, which credited him with time already served.
