U.S. Embassy in Moscow tells American citizens to leave the country immediately
The U.S. Embassy in Moscow has issued a statement telling American citizens to leave the country immediately due to the deteriorating security situation. This comes as tensions between Russia and the West continue to mount, with accusations flying back and forth about who is to blame for the recent increase in violence in eastern Ukraine.
Meanwhile, Russia has denied allegations from the Ukrainian government that it was behind the recent sabotage of a key pipeline carrying Russian natural gas to Europe. The Nord Stream pipeline is a vital link between Russia and its European customers, and any disruption to its flow could have major consequences for the region’s energy security.
With both sides seeming unwilling to back down, it seems likely that the tensions between Russia and the West will continue to grow in the days and weeks ahead. American citizens in Russia are advised to monitor the situation closely and consider leaving the country while they still can.
This comes as Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to announce the annexation of Crimea on Friday. There are also fears that Moscow could resort to nuclear weapons to “defend” what it will claim is its territory.
In related news, European officials are investigating unexplained leaks affecting both the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines that carry natural gas from Russia to Europe via the Baltic Sea. Moscow has denied allegations of sabotaging the pipelines.
