Woman ‘buried alive by husband’ calls 911 on her Apple Watch
An Apple Watch played a role in saving the life of a woman in Washington State after she was “buried alive” by her husband.
Forty-two-year-old Young Sook An was kidnapped by her husband on Sunday, whom she is embroiled in a divorce with. Her husband reported told her that he would “rather kill her than give her his retirement money.”
According to the couple’s daughter, Chae Kyong An, 53, attacked Young Sook An at 1pm on Sunday.
Chae Kyong An reportedly followed Young Sook An into her room as she was going to change clothes and duct taped her hands behind her back, duct taped her ankles together and then placed duct tape across her eyes
Young Sook An was then dragged into her dodge caravan. In the scuffle, she was able to alert both her 20-year-old daughter and authorities on her Apple Watch that she was in trouble.
Young Sook An told police she was driven some distance before the van came to a stop. She said he could hear her husband digging a hole. She said she was then stabbed in the chest and then placed in the hole.
The probable cause document reads that “a heavy tree” was also “put on top of her.”
“After being put in the ground she could hear her husband walking around the hole and dirt being put on top of her,” it continues.
Young Sook An said she was able to squirm around to avoid suffocation and break free from both the duct tape and the hole after several hours.
She ran 30 minutes to the nearest house where she sought refuge in a shed.
When police arrived and confirmed she was the missing female, she said, “My husband is still out in the woods somewhere!”
Investigators were later able to locate the shallow grave at the edge of a clearing.
“The hole appeared to be freshly dug. Outside the hole was a piece of duct tape,” a police report said.
According to a Thurston County Superior Court filing, when Young Sook An ultimately escaped and called the police, she “had duct tape still wrapped around her neck, lower face and ankles.”
“There was also extensive bruising to her legs, arms and head and her clothing and hair were covered in dirt.”
Chae Kyong An was arrested and booked into the county jail where he is being held without bail. He is facing charges of first-degree attempted murder, first degree kidnapping and first-degree assault.
Young Sook An released a statement through her lawyer pleading for him not to get bail.
“Please no bail. I am really afraid for my life. I just want to emphasize that I fear him so much and he will kill me again if he is out.”
