Trump says he will expose ‘unflattering’ info about DeSantis if they face off in 2024 primary
Former president Donald Trump told reporters this week that if he and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis face off in the 2024 GOP presidential primary election, he would reveal “unflattering” information about the popular Florida politician that DeSantis “would not like.”
Speaking to the press aboard “Trump Force One,” Trump’s private jet, he told them that if DeSantis made a bid for the Republican nomination in 2024, it would be harmful to the party.
“I think if he runs, he could hurt himself very badly. I really believe he could hurt himself badly,” Trump said, according to Fox News.
While neither Trump nor DeSantis have made an official announcement regarding a run for POTUS in the next general election, Trump is rumored to be eager for a “November surprise,” according to some close associates.
Expectations of a DeSantis bid picked up after the governor hesitated in a debate against challenger Charlie Crist to commit to serving a full term as Florida’s governor if he won the midterm election.
Trump threatened to release information about DeSantis if they become opponents, saying, “I don’t know if he runs. If he runs, he runs. I would tell you things about him that won’t be very flattering — I know more about him than anybody — other than, perhaps, his wife.”
Trump did not specify what information he may be holding about DeSantis, but when asked if there may be a conflict between Trump and DeSantis, Trump answered, “There’s not a tiff with me, and I’m way up in the polls.” Trump referred to DeSantis as “Ron DeSanctimonious” at a rally in Pennsylvania a few days ago.
