President Biden touts Democratic victories after Republicans fail to achieve expectations of a ‘red wave’
President Joe Biden praised Democrat candidate for a “strong night” and which defied a lot of predictions in Tuesday’s midterm elections, however he accepted that there is frustration amongst voters with the current direction of the country.
“While the press and the pundits were predicting a giant red wave, it didn’t happen,” Biden said at a Wednesday news conference. “It was a good day, I think, for democracy. And I think it was a good day for America.”
Biden also said that he understood Americans’ economic fears but said there is no immediate need to “change anything in any fundamental way” in spite of their frustrations.
“Voters spoke clearly about their concerns about raising costs for and the need to get inflation down,” Biden added. “There’s still a lot of people hurting.”
Biden said that parts of his agenda “are just starting to kick in” and believes that they will bring much needed support to Americans.
According to a White House statement on Wednesday night, Biden said he plans to invite congressional leaders to the White House to discuss a shared agenda. The statement added that Biden had a conversation with Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.
While Republicans were expected to gain control of the House, their chances of victory have grown much slimmer than expected. Republicans currently have 210 House seats with Democrats on 192, with 218 seats being required for a majority.
