Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene introduces resolution to audit aid given to Ukraine

House Republicans, who have been vocal about assistance given to Ukraine during their conflict with Russia, introduced a privileged resolution on Thursday to audit the funds allocated to Ukraine by Congress.

The resolution is being led by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and has the backing of several Republican lawmakers.

Greene introduced the bill as a privileged resolution which means it will be referred to the relevant committee, where members will have 14 business days to decide whether to approve it, ask for a vote on the House floor or shoot it down.

If the bill is not brought up in the committee within the given time frame, Greene will have the option to force a House floor vote on the bill without any committee referral.

Both Republicans and Democrats who have supported the United States’ efforts to support Ukraine have said that those involved in the resolution make up a small fringe group.

Taylor Greene announced the resolution on Twitter, saying: “For how many years has the American people’s money been sent to foreign countries in the form of aid but nothing ever changes? We want to know where our money is going. Whose pockets is it going in?”

So far, the Biden administration has given over $20 billion in military funding to Ukraine, along with approximately $10 billion in humanitarian assistance and $13 billion in economic assistance.

President Biden is now asking Congress for another $37.7 billion in extra funding for Ukraine.
