Kim Jong Un releases first photos of himself with his daughter at missile launch
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un recently tested a new ballistic missile on Friday. North Korea were testing the Hwasong-17 intercontinental ballistic missile. During this launch, Kim Jong Un was photographed for the first time with his daughter.
North Korean state media outlet KCNA confirmed that Kim Jong Un attended the launch with his “beloved daughter and wife.” North Korea expert Ankit Panda also noted on Twitter, “we’ve never seen his daughter” in public before this outing.
KCNA did not disclose the name or age of Kim Jon Un’s daughter. Kim Jong Un is believed to have 3 children, however he is very reserved when it comes to talking about his family.
Former NBA player Dennis Rodman, who formed a friendship with Kim Jong Un, said back in 2013 that Kim had a daughter called Kim Ju-ae. His daughter is believed to be 9 or 10 years old. It is not known whether Kim Ju-ae is the girl photographed on Thursday.
North Korea’s continuous missile testing has angered nearby countries.
“North Korea is repeating provocations with unprecedented frequency, and this is absolutely unacceptable,” Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said on Friday, according to The New York Times.
Japanese Defense Minister Yasukazu Hamada said he believed the missile has the range to reach the US mainland.
“The ICBM-class ballistic missile launched this time could have a range of over 15,000 km when calculated based on the flight distance of this ICBM,” Hamada said in a statement, CNN reported. “It depends on the weight of the warhead, but in that case, the US mainland would be included in the range.”
Vice President Kamala Harris blasted North Korea for their missile test and urged them to “stop further unlawful, destabilizing acts.”
