Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski wins re-election in Alaska
Alaskan Senator Lisa Murkowski, a Republican largely known for voting to impeach Trump, has won another term in the Senate.
Trump-backed candidate Kelly Tshibaka had challenged Murkowski, calling her the “disaster from Alaska.”
On Wednesday, incumbent Rep. Mary Peltola (D) also won a full two-year term as Alaska’s lone representative in the House, by again defeating former Republican Governor Sarah Palin.
The projections arrived after the Alaska Division of Elections on Wednesday night revealed the results of Alaska’s new ranked-choice voting system and are some of the last outstanding races from the midterms.
Murkowski’s victory will not change the balance of the senate as Alaska’s last remaining Senate candidates in Alaska were both Republicans.
Peltola’s projected win gives Democrats a total of 213 seats in the House.
Along with voting to impeach Trump in his second trial, Murkowski was one of the three Republicans who voted to confirm Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson in April and opposed the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh.
In Murkowski’s final campaign ad she promised to “work with anyone, from either party, to advance Alaska’s priorities.”
