Another lawsuit has been filed against Twitter for allegedly firing an unfair amount of female workers
Two former Twitter employees have filed a class-action lawsuit against the the company over allegations of gender discrimination.
The lawsuit, which was filed in San Francisco Federal Court, alleges that Elon Musk’s new policies have led to a “disproportionate impact” on female workers.
The lawsuit cited company data which reportedly found that Twitter laid off 57% of its female employees and only 47% of its male employees, according to Business Insider. When it came to engineering positions, 63% of female workers were laid off compared to only 48% of men in similar roles.
As Insider report, this isn’t the first lawsuit filed against Twitter since Elon Musk bought the platform in October.
Twitter faces another lawsuit for allegedly violating the California WARN Act, which requires employers to provide advanced notice to employees before conducting mass layoffs.
Another lawsuit claims that Twitter discriminated against disabled workers by requiring them to come into the office without providing reasonable accommodation – which is required by the California Fair Employment and Housing Act.
Dmitry Borodaenko, a former engineering manager at Twitter, is leading the lawsuit in the case against Twitter’s discrimination of employees with disabilities.
Borodaenko has argued that, as a former cancer survivor, contracting a virus like COVID-19 was a “life or death situation,” so when he requested being able to work from home, Musk’s new policies on remote work made that almost impossible.
