The GEC – another agency pulling Twitter’s strings
The Global Engagement Center, or GEC, now authorized by Congress, is the State Department’s propaganda arm. It, too, partnered with Twitter.
As CNAV reported this morning, Matt Taibbi released two Twitter Files threads in one afternoon. The second thread concerned a hitherto unknown agency at the State Department – the Global Engagement Center, or GEC. The GEC gains notoriety here for two reasons. First, it gives us yet another window into Deep State “mis-, dis-, and malinformation” concerning their bitter enemies, the Russians. Second, this new agency was so aggressive in making a name for itself that Twitter took offense. But the offense was only that the GEC upstaged Twitter before the legacy media. We now see a tale of puerile gamesmanship by supposed professionals – in a potential world-war context. But we also see a dangerous manifestation of government propaganda – which can have no place in a free society.
Background on the GEC – and SARS-CoV-2
The Global Engagement Center or GEC is yet another Ministry of Truth, this time dealing with foreigners contesting government narratives. Their home page gives this mission statement:
To direct, lead, synchronize, integrate, and coordinate U.S. Federal Government efforts to recognize, understand, expose, and counter foreign state and non-state propaganda and disinformation efforts aimed at undermining or influencing the policies, security, or stability of the United States, its allies, and partner nations.
Their About page tells us how long they have existed: since 2011 (the Obama administration) with Executive Order 13584. That Order called it the Center for Strategic Counter-terrorism Communications. Executive Order 13271 in 2016 changes its name to Global Engagement Center. Further authority came from the National Defense Authorization Acts of 2017 and 2019.
Why didn’t President Trump sunset this abominable, pretentious, and arguably unconstitutional agency? For the same reason he bought into the SARS-CoV-2 narrative: lack of imagination. But the GEC is also part of a “bipartisan” effort by the Republican Establishment and the Democratic Party. This RINO-Dem Alliance that Laura Loomer, Stephen Turley, and others call “Uniparty” bears the blame for every tyrannical measure we have seen from this government. And true to form, GEC promoted the Bat Soup Theory of the origin of SARS-CoV-2. They also labeled anyone questioning official narratives as a Russian agent. This served the dual purpose of:
- Scaring the American people with an external enemy that wasn’t an enemy, and
- Inciting resentment against the Deep State’s real and most dangerous external enemy.
Twitter Files 12
Bear all this in mind as you read Twitter Files 12: Twitter and the “belly button of the FBI.”
One Twitter user, reading the thread, wanted to know whether Matt Taibbi had that list of 250,000 accounts. (He doesn’t.)
Liberal commentator Bill Maher is not happy. As he sees it, this affair has disgraced the Democratic Party.
Sadly, many on the Left don’t see it that way. No one can deny the suspensions – but, as CNAV has noted before, too many are copacetic with them. And anyone who is not copacetic, gets the argumentum ad hominem treatment. Which again goes to show: the souls of many American citizens and residents are in a very dark place.
Analysis
George Orwell’s 1984 was not an instruction manual; it was a warning. But clearly many people took that novel as an instruction manual. This GEC is indeed a Ministry of Truth, and of course totally blurs any distinction between foreign and domestic contradictors of The Narrative. That is, if you grant that any such distinction ever existed.
A free society does not have a GEC. Smart, discerning citizens are perfectly capable of separating fact and fiction on their own. GEC is like something out of lurid movies about totalitarian takeovers of the United States. We saw this in 1984’s Red Dawn and earlier in 1967’s Shadow on the Land. (And we arguably saw it in another cautionary movie, 1983’s Blue Thunder.) GEC is about “otherization,” this time about “other” countries or civilizations.
Furthermore, it ill befit President Trump to let this go on. Inevitably they betrayed him, first by feeding him a false narrative, and then by seeking to destroy everything he ever stood for.
This particular installment of the Twitter Files shows yet again the injustice to which Twitter users were subject. But it also shows how dangerous a “servant” and how fearsome a “master” our government has now become. CNAV urges all Americans to contact their Senators and Representatives and urge them to disband the Global Engagement Center. And they don’t even have to move any of its functions to other agencies: none are legitimate.
