Rep. Raskin says convicting Trump of his alleged crimes ‘would not be that satisfying’
Democratic Rep. Jamie Raskin of Maryland says that even if former President Donald Trump was convicted of a crime, it “would not be that satisfying” to him.
Raskin was a member of the now-obsolete House committee investigating Trump and his role in the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot.
Before being disbanded, the committee referred Trump to the Department of Justice in order to face criminal charges for allegedly inciting an “insurrection” and attempting to overthrow the government.
The Chairman of the Jan. 6 committee, Democratic Rep. Bennie Thompson, said he was “convinced” the DOJ would charge Trump.
While speaking with Andy Slavitt, a former official in the Obama and Biden administrations, Raskin referred to Trump as “a pathetic, old man, a coward,” according to The Hill.
“And so, even if he were to get his comeuppance in court finally in his late 70s or 80s, what would it really mean?” Raskin said, adding: “What we need to do is to figure out how to stop all of the Donald Trumps in the future and these horrific movements and forces he’s unleashed against us as a democracy.”
