‘SNL’ mocks Merrick Garland, FBI’s search for classified documents at Pence, Obama’s homes
“Saturday Night Live” began it’s late-night show with an opening sketch which mocked U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland. The sketch portrayed Garland holding a news conference discussing the federal government’s efforts to retrieve classified documents from both the former and current Presidents.
Mikey Day, who portrayed Merrick Garland, played the sketch well, “Some have said the federal government classifies too many documents. This has led people to ask, ‘Does recovering these documents even matter?’ To which I say, ‘I don’t know, but it’s the law. And I am the law’” (TickleTheWire). Kenan Thompson, Ego Nwodim and Brown Yang played FBI agents who shared their feelings.
In the sketch, Thompson said, “Upon arriving at Pence’s Indiana home, I knew right away this man needed a friend, When he opened the door. ‘You Came!’ with a big smile, and then he offered to make us pancakes” (TickleTheWire). Yang would later walk in describing his experience searching the former President Obama’s home. “Don’t mean to brag, but I was in Barack Obama’s house, it was really fun. Mr. Obama opened the door and said, ‘Are you selling Girl Scout cookies?’ – which had us all totally cracking up” (TickleTheWire).
