Baseball umpire suspended indefinitely for terrible call

A college baseball umpire was suspended “indefinitely” on Friday night after going viral for the wrong reasons.
Two decisions made by the umpire were deemed to be so bad that his position could be untenable.
With two outs in the ninth inning, left fielder Davon Mims stood at the plate with a 1-1 count.
Mims took a pitch low in the zone which was called a strike by the home plate umpire. Mims did protest this decision.
On the next pitch, the New Orleans pitcher threw what appeared to be an obvious ball down and off the plate, however home plate umpire called strike three, subsequently bringing the game to an end.
“Oh my gosh! Wow! He got wrung up on ball two, and the game is over,” the commentator said. “Oh my goodness. That is horrific!”
At the end of Friday night’s game between New Orleans and Mississippi Valley State, the home plate umpire ended the game with two strike calls on pitches which were some distance from the strike zone. The Southland Conference felt it necessary to carry out “a thorough review” on the two calls. The umpire was suspended shortly after the review.
“After a thorough review of the New Orleans and Mississippi Valley State baseball contest on March 10, 2023, the Southland Conference confirmed the home plate umpire’s conduct and actions were deemed detrimental to the Conference and in violation of Section 3 Character and Conduct of the CCA Mechanics Manual for Baseball,” the conference said in a statement. “As a result, the umpire has been removed from the series and has been suspended indefinitely from Southland Conference baseball games.”
The College Baseball Podcast took to Twitter and named the umpire in question.
“Umpire Reggie Drummer has been suspended indefinitely by the Southland Conference.”
