Federal indictment of Trump comes down
The rumored federal indictment of President Donald Trump has now taken place. Reaction includes surprise and outrage.
The rumored imminent federal indictment of President Donald Trump has in fact taken place.
Trump announces federal indictment
At 7:21 p.m. EDT on June 8, 2023, President Donald Trump announced that the Justice Department had informed his lawyers of a federal indictment against him. The indictment concerns information he took with him to his Mar-A-Lago estate – information authorities allege he held unlawfully. Trump made the announcement in three parts on his Truth Social site.
The corrupt Biden Administration has informed my attorneys that I have been Indicted, seemingly over the Boxes Hoax, even though Joe Biden has 1850 Boxes at the University of Delaware, additional Boxes in Chinatown, D.C., with even more Boxes at the University of Pennsylvania, and documents strewn all over his garage floor where he parks his Corvette, and which is “secured” by only a garage door that is paper thin, and open much of the time.
I have been summoned to appear at the Federal Courthouse in Miami on Tuesday, at 3 PM. I never thought it possible that such a thing could happen to a former President of the United States, who received far more votes than any sitting President in the History of our Country, and is currently leading, by far, all Candidates, both Democrat and Republican, in Polls of the 2024 Presidential Election. I AM AN INNOCENT MAN!
This is indeed a DARK DAY for the United States of America. We are a Country in serious and rapid Decline, but together we will Make America Great Again!
He then released a Rumble video, which one can view only on Truth Social at this link. (The video lists as private.) However, on Twitter, the Trump War Room also carried the video:
After that he released several videos, all on Rumble, from various news organs, discussing the indictment.
Details on the indictment are sketchy, though the case generally follows the outline by the “sources close to the case” who shared the rumor with John Solomon two days ago. (Solomon’s Just the News has its own report on Trump’s statement.)Fox News confirms that the charges concern materials the FBI seized in their raid on Trump’s estate in August 2022.
Trump, in addition to maintaining his innocence, mentions Biden’s classified-documents scandal. Biden allegedly had documents going back to his U.S. Senate days.
Reaction
Reaction appears to fall under predictable patterns. When Twitter user ALX tweeted photos of Trump’s message, Elon Musk sounded what appeared to be a warning:
But former Gov. Asa Hutchinson (R-Ark.) called on Trump to withdraw from the race, according to this tweet:
Laura Loomer vowed to vote for him even if he runs for office from a prison cell:
Trump War Room retweeted several supportive tweets:
This tweet offered further evidence that Jack Smith, the special counsel prosecuting Trump, has a history of “flawed prosecutions.”
The Trump campaign made this written statement, which their account shared as a collage of photos:
Update
The Gateway Pundit has the greatest detail on the federal indictment. Correspondent Christina Laila tells us a Florida grand jury indicted Trump on seven counts.
The charges from the Florida grand jury range from conspiracy to willful retention of national defense information to a scheme to conceal to false statements, ABC reported.
Next week, a Washington, D.C. grand jury will reconvene, to hear charges of obstruction of justice. They also will hear Espionage Act charges, specifically 18 U.S.C. Section 793. That section refers only to national defense information and not to classified information. This last report comes from The Independent, through Yahoo! News.
