Special prosecutor targets Trump for alleged January 6 role

The special prosecutor assigned to investigate former President Donald Trump now has notified him that he is a target of the investigation by a grand jury looking into the January 6 Event.

Special prosecutor notifies Trump’s attorneys

Special prosecutor Jack Smith evidently served that notice on Trump’s lawyers on Sunday (January 16), according to Trump’s own statement. He released a two-page statement on Truth Social, as two images of text. (See Page One and Page Two.) The Post Millennial also carried the story early this morning.

Deranged Jack Smith, the prosecutor with Joe Biden’s DOJ, sent a letter ([on] Sunday night!] stating that I am a TARGET of the January 6th Grand Jury investigation, and giving me a very short 4 days to report to the Grand Jury, which almost always means an Arrest and Indictment.

Trump directly accused the Justice Department of a campaign of political persecution of an opponent of the incumbent chief executive. He referred to the spying on his campaign, the Steele Dossier, two impeachments, the Mueller investigation (which came to nothing), the Russia Hoax, and the letter from fifty-one so-called intelligence agents alleging that the Hunter Biden Laptop was a disinformation trick by the Russian SVR. Much of what Trump alleged against the Justice Department (and by extension the special prosecutor) is in the Durham Report. He also referred to “FBI/Twitter Files” and “DOJ/Facebook censorship.” This could refer to the findings by Judge Terry A. Doughty in Missouri v. Biden justifying his Big Injunction.

But his most electrifying allegation is that the Justice Department “staffs and runs” the New York County District Attorney’s office. He also alerted his followers to watch out for a fourth indictment, from the Fulton County D.A.’s office in Atlanta. That would arise from allegations that he put unlawful pressure on Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to disallow the election returns showing Joe Biden carrying Georgia in 2020. In that regard Trump alleged “coordination” between the special prosecutor and the Atlanta D.A.

Election interference

In fact, the Manhattan D.A.’s office, late last year, did hire an attorney away from the Justice Department. That attorney, Matthew Colangelo, once investigated the Trump Foundation. This information comes from a contemporaneous article in The Hill. District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s statement on the hiring of Colangelo speaks volumes:

Public safety requires economic stability, and all New Yorkers deserve to live and work without risk of harassment, wage theft or dangerous workplaces. Matthew Colangelo brings a wealth of economic justice experience combined with complex white-collar investigations, and he has the sound judgment and integrity needed to pursue justice against powerful people and institutions when they abuse their power.

“Economic justice” very often substitutes for “redistribution of wealth” in leftist parlance. More to the point, Matthew Colangelo does serve on the team prosecuting Trump in the Stormy Daniels business records case. (That, according to ABC News.)

Trump repeatedly referred to the suspicious timing in this case. First, it occurred after he won a straw poll at a Turning Point USA event. Second, he also had suggested the federal government revoke the Washington, D.C. “Home Rule” charter and take direct control. He cited filth, unsanitary conditions, and rampant crime in the nation’s capital as grounds for such action.

No one seems to have reached out to the special prosecutor for comment.
