Kathy Hochul changes her immigration tune
Gov. Kathy Hochul (D-N.Y.), once welcoming of immigrants, now tells them to go somewhere else, and says the border is too open.
Gov. Kathy Hochul (D-N.Y.) has changed her position completely on immigration. Once welcoming, she is now unwelcoming of any further immigration. But true to Democratic form, she blames Republicans, and calls on Congress to act. And she forgets that her fellow Democrat would veto any meaningful or effective measures to mitigate a humanitarian border crisis.
The evolution of Kathy Hochul
Kathy Hochul outlined her current position on CBS News’ Face the Nation yesterday morning. She criticized Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), Speaker of the House, for “refus[ing] to work with President Biden” on immigration. Yet in that same interview she actually called for immigration limits. “It [the border] is too open right now,” she said. She also took note that many of the migrants are landing in New York City. Tellingly, she did not mention the programs by Gov. Greg Abbott (R-Texas) and Mayor Oscar Leeser (D-El Paso, Texas) of putting migrants on buses to whichever city they say they want to reach.
But she did note that the influx of migrants in her State’s largest city is now overwhelming. (Mayor Eric Adams, D-NYC, has said the same.) Lastly, she recommended tripling or quadrupling the Border Patrol force.
A month ago, Kathy Hochul told CNN that migrants should “go somewhere else” besides New York State.
But according to The Gateway Pundit, she also has called on the Biden administration to provide work permits to migrants – and to send money and personnel to New York.
Most of these positions are far different from the absolutely welcoming position she took in December 2021. She even quoted Emma Lazarus’ Statue of Liberty poem to justify her position.
