Lobbyists working against Jordan in the House?
Are K Street lobbyists actively dealing with House Republicans to persuade them to vote against Jim Jordan? Steve Bannon so alleges.
This morning, before the second round of voting in the House Speaker race, an allegation surface that K Street lobbyists are behind the seemingly obdurate dissension in Republican ranks. Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) lost in a second round of voting to choose a new Speaker. Twenty-two Republicans voted for candidates other than Jordan, preventing a majority for a second time.
Are lobbyists working against Jim Jordan?
Steve Bannon, on his War Room program, aired the allegation on his program.
Jim Hoft at The Gateway Pundit provided a partial transcript. He claims to have spies at an eatery called the Capitol Grill, a frequent meeting place for lobbyists and the Representatives whom they finance. Bannon spoke also of “a couple of people that are going to be added to this.”
Twenty Republicans broke ranks yesterday – and twenty-two today. Reps. Drew Ferguson (R-Ga.), Vern Buchanan (R-Ga.), and Marianette Miller-Meeks (R-Iowa) voted against Jordan, though they voted for him yesterday. But Rep. Victoria Spartz (R-Ind.) voted for Jordan today, though she voted against him yesterday. Nineteen other Republicans voted against Jordan both yesterday and today.
Dr. Steve Turley identified a group of people he called “the appropriators,” whom he described as corrupt, venal legislators. Such people live for whatever money they can cadge from the public purse. This could be an instance of such behavior. America has never seen it before – but then, we’ve never had to replace a Speaker in mid-session without a definite candidate before.
Dr. Turley says that such legislators live for their K Street money. But perhaps they need no persuasion to vote against Jordan, and are taking the lobbyists for whatever they can get.
In any event, activists are already vowing to “primary” the Representatives involved. This post on X has the current roster of defectors, with their office numbers:
